Update: A Letter To My Groomsman

I_0304Fellas, on Dec 5th 2010 you stood by my side in support of my decision to marry Holly. It was one of the biggest decisions I’ve made, and yet one of the best decisions I’ve every made.

Today I am needing you to stand by my side once again. Not as a single man taking the step into marriage, but as a new father needing your prayers for my daughter Emilie Grace. Each of you are aware of the journey Holly and I have been on since April 11th. While traveling this road has not been easy, God has given us strength beyond what we could ask for. We sincerely find ourselves counting it all joy. Yet I am asking God for more than just strength for the day. I’m asking for complete and full healing of Emilie. Now I do believe God has healed her based on the promises in His Word; however, Holly and I have yet to experience the full manifestation of that healing.

Well last week Emilie was moved to a hospital where a pediatric neurosurgeon works. Because of the hydrocephalus, they wanted her to be at a hospital where a neurosurgeon would be able to place a shunt in if needed.

Today (Aug 5th)  we met with the neurosurgeon, and he is scheduling Emilie to have the shunt placed in tomorrow morning. Over the weekend her head circumference increased and we noticed that her eyes were beginning to deviate to the right. This is a result of the hydrocephalus interfering with neurological activity.

photo 2As you know, Holly and I have wrestled in prayer concerning this hydrocephalus and shunt placement. Our prayer has been that God would eliminate it all together. There’s definitely a tension we’re experiencing as we wrestle with reconciling our faith in God’s ability to heal and what the doctors are strongly recommending. According to His Word we do believe God has healed her, we are just uncertain on why the delayed manifestation.

After we met with the doctor today Holly and I began praying that God would move miraculously by tomorrow. This prayer is not one of hope, but one of faith… believing that He will.

We’ve learned a lot on this journey, and while we haven’t quite figured it all out we really appreciate each of you taking the time to remember our Emilie in your thoughts and prayers.  We really appreciate it all!
Please continue to keep us lifted.

Seth

  1. Dear Seth and Holly, God will meet you at every point of need. I am praying the prayer of faith that He will move mightily. Emilie Grace is in His capable hands. . . rest in His Sovereign control. Trust Him for His outcome. Much love to you.

  2. Jesus, friend of little children, you see Emilie right now. Thank you for being there for her daddy and mommy. Thank you for holding her up in every surgical procedure that she has endured thus far. Lord, she is scheduled to have a shunt placed today and her parents have been unrelentlessly asking for her complete healing. Please grant them this request. Please heal Emilie. And WHEN YOU DO, thanksgiving will be offered unto you. In Jesus name, Amen!

  3. Seth, we’ve never met. I went to high school with Holly. I wish there was some way for me to tell you how much there is in my heart for your family and for sweet Emilie Grace. I am the mother of a 28 week old preemie and I understand some of what you may be feeling: the faith, the longing, the fear, the hope, and so many more emotions. Please just know that you are covered in prayer, all the way from Ohio.

  4. Praying and believing with you. I watched the video of you singing to Emilie and the awareness in her eyes as she gazed into yours told me she knows she is loved. Perhaps God will work in a way that is unexpected through one of your worst fears – placement of the shunt. Nothing is impossible with Him.

  5. I’ve never met neither of you but your story is so touching. We as humans always think our situations are worse than others until we actually hear of other stories such as yours. God will definitely see you guys through this. I will keep you guys in my prayers. Emelie will be healed and discharged from the hospital in due time.

  6. I also have never met either of you but believe that God brought us all across your paths for a reason. After reading about what hydrocephalus is, I will be sending up prayers often for her manifested healing. Yes, God indeed has already done the work of healing her – hold on to the faith that he will manifest it in His timing which is always perfect. God is by your family’s side, and will not leave you. Continue to trust in Him. He will bring you through, and it will be all for your good and His glory.
