Update: 29 Weeks

photo 1Emilie is now 29 weeks old. Her weight is hovering just under 3lbs and she is now being fed 12ml of breast milk every 3hrs. Her bowls are working very well, requiring many diapers and frequent changes. Her breathing is improving every day. Though she has not been removed from the ventilator yet, we are hopeful in the next week she should be able to breath on her own. They’re still draining around 12ml of fluid off of her brain each day and they anticipate doing this for the next several weeks. As her condition improves the amount of fluid they drain will decrease. The doctors are hoping (Holly and I are believing) that in time her brain will heal resulting in her not needing a shunt.

Emilie’s stay at Kaiser Sunset has been interesting. While at Anaheim she had a private room that remained reasonably dark with very little noise. Sunset is the total opposite. Here she is a part of the general population where the bright lights, noise of crying babies, buzzing machines, and chattering nurses is all a part of the ambiance.

Holly and I have debated on whether to send her back to Kaiser Anaheim, which is 35 miles from our house, or Kaiser Fontana, which is only 7 miles away. While Fontana may seem like the logical choice, Holly and I are on a Journey of Faith. Because faith is not known for making the most logical decisions, we want her to be wherever God will be most glorified by the miracle He will perform… even if its 35 miles away.

    • My daughter was in the CICU for 6/12 weeks with all the noise and chatter. I don’t know how it affected her, but at night it was quiet, she did get sunlight and I brought little speakers with songs and stories on it of different family members singing to her. She is now a very social person and Lives for music. My husband and I are daily praying for little Emile Grace. I know the Lord will show you the best place for her to be. God is still in control!

  1. Praise God! I pray for Emilee with my granddaughter. She is only a month old. We pray that Emilee will soon be able to eat and be held by her parents. Our prayers are answered. God is awesome! We are staying tuned to hear more of your miracle. God is moving!

  2. Every morning on the prayer line, we are praying for baby Emile…. We believe God is going to heal, that she will make it to have a long and prosperous life.. Keep the faith and know that there are many praying for her and both of you……

  3. I will be praying! I agree with your statement :

“Because faith is not known for making the most logical decisions, we want her to be wherever God will be most glorified by the miracle He will perform…”

This may be the opportunity to bless someone else who witnesses your faith. I know I have been blessed and encourage regarding things within my own life.

  4. Praise God. A wise SDA christian woman said toe a few years ago to make my decisions in faith with God and He will weave my decision back into His master plan. Satan casts seeds of doubt. Pray and make the best decision you think you should make as her parents and go with it.
Remember that God chose you both to be Emilie’s parents.
I am still still praying for Emilie and seeing that God is answering prayer. Thank you for sharing how God is showing up and out. Praise be to God!!!!

  5. I have full faith! Being the mother of a 26 week preemie myself, I encourage you to research the quality of care. My husband and I had the same concerns about our NICU, only to realize its one of the best in the nation. Yes it was busy but we tended to show up for the night shift, when other parents are gone. It gave us privacy and kept nurses on their toes.

  6. Dear Seth and Holly, I am so glad to hear Emilie’s progress report and that she is getting her Mommy’s milk. I rejoice with you as I remember the quote from Sun Stand Still: “I despaired at the thought that my life might slip by without seeing God show himself mightily on our behalf.” You are most definitely experiencing a mighty move of God on your behalf. Trust Him for His outcome. Much love to you both.

  7. Hello, I came across your story on face book and It took my back to when my lil one was there. She was born only 4 weeks early but had other stuff going on. Anyway we were at Kaiser Fontana, which sounds a lot like Sunset, but we had the best care ever there and everyone was awesome.
I do also believe in faith so pray to God for guidance and she will end up where she needs to be.
I use to take the buss from Rancho to Fontana because at the moment we only had one car, but it was well worth it. I will keep Emilie and your family in my prayers. Isis

  8. I like this version the best for this verse
    Isaiah 40:28-31NKJV
He gives power to the weak, And to  those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew  their  strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

  9. praises to God for her improvement. i pray for her every morning. in your decision to move her, allow the Lord to lead you. My daughter was in a children’s hospital about 1hr and 30mins from our home. We wanted to move her closer to a local hospital, the day before they had a bed for her. When it was time to move her , the dr said let me call them again before sending her. and there was no room in the inn for my azriel. However, that was all God’s doing. A week or so later azriel coded and she was right we she needed to be in the children’s hospital with every single specialist and critical care personal. You know things are really bad when you get to your kids room and it seems like every single doctor and nurse in the hospital is at her room. Sigh Anyway a few weeks later we made the decision to give a tracheostomy tube. Again the children hospital was the best place for her. Doing this surgery was route work for them. And the team that trained us to take care her was amazing. I went back to look for our trainer bc I just wanted to hug her and cry. And simply say thank you. You see she taught us so well that when my daughter got in respiratory distressed at home, I was calm and I knew exactly what to do. So just allow God to lead if he closes a door don’t try to force it open. God bless

  10. YAY! I am so glad to hear about the progress, and am continuing to trust God’s plan. We are praying for you and Holly that at some point you all are getting rest, and being afforded peace that passes understanding as well. – The Robinsons

  11. I’m so glad for the progress report! The effectual, fervent prayers of the righteous availeth much! Stay prarerful and HE will surely tell you which location is best. I’m lookinf forward to more good news 🙂

  12. Hi Holly & Seth: we are still lifting up Emilie Grace and your faith in the Lord Almighty is really helping your little one. Much love and continued prayers, Cousin Carol

    • I continue to lift Emilie and her parents up in prayer. I have always felt I had a lot of Faith and I have given thanks that Emilie’s healing is done. But I must be honest- The three of you continue to strengthen my Faith. I thank you for sharing your journey, as we continue to pray for YOUR FAMILY and give Him all of the Glory. May God continue to Bless you!
